Zipaquirá
Famous
for its rock salt mine, 50 km. North of Bogotá.
The underground cathedral was constructed by miners inside the huge main
salt mine.
Can be visited from Tuesday through Sunday , from 10:00
AM to 4:00 PM.
Guatavita.
Located 75 km from Bogotá.
Also called Guatavita la Nueva, is a new town built from scratch in the
late 1960s when the old colonial Guatavita dating from 1542 was flooded
by the waters of a hydroelectric reservoir.
Laguna de Guatavita.
In the surroundings of Guatavita you will find the lake of Guatavita.
The sacred lake and ritual center of the Muisca Indians. It was here that
the Zipa, the Muisca Cacique coated with gold dust, would throw precious
offerings into the lake. It is a quiet and beautiful place; you can walk
right round it close to the water level.
Santa Cruz, Zoo
Located on the road to El Colegio, about 30 km from Bogotá.
Built in the coffee plantation area. Holds species of animals typical
of Colombia.
Fusagasugá
This town Is located 80 km south of Bogota, known for its gardens. Thanks
to the mild climate, a wide variety of decorative plants grow in this
region.
The
best known garden is La Clarita, noted for its orchids.
